May Highlights: Fly Fishing on Texas’s Devils River

In May, we journeyed to Texas for an unforgettable fishing adventure on the renowned Devils River. Teaming up with our friend Marcus Rodriguez, we spent three thrilling days fly fishing for smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, and carp in one of the most pristine rivers in the country. The rugged beauty of the Devils River made this shoot an incredible experience, with crystal-clear water and challenging fish to match.

Throughout the trip, we filmed for our partners Pakmule, Condition1 Cases, and Turtlebox, highlighting their gear in the rugged conditions of the Texas wilderness. After our time on the Devils River, we headed east to explore some of Texas’s more traditional Hill Country rivers, like the Llano River, where we continued filming and capturing stunning fishing sequences.

This was an action-packed month full of adventure and amazing footage. We can’t wait to share these experiences with our audience as The 50 State Pursuit continues, thanks to the support of our incredible partners.

June Highlights: Trout Fishing in New Mexico and Arizona Crawfish

June took us to the high country of New Mexico for the next chapter of The 50 State Pursuit. With our Kifaru packs strapped on, Justus and I ventured deep into the Pecos River drainages in search of two rare native trout species: the Gila Trout and Rio Grande Cutthroat. The remote, rugged beauty of the high-altitude streams provided the perfect backdrop for this challenging and rewarding pursuit.

After our time in New Mexico, we headed to Arizona for an incredible 5-day adventure. Our time in Arizona included hunting for the elusive Apache Trout, fly fishing for smallmouth bass, and turning over rocks in the backcountry to gather crawfish for a wild, campfire-cooked dinner. We wrapped up the episode with an unforgettable campout along the rim of the Grand Canyon, capturing stunning sunsets and jaw-dropping landscapes.

In addition to filming for Condition1 Cases and Turtlebox Audio, we also highlighted Kifaru packs, showing how they performed in these rugged, backcountry environments. The packs were essential in carrying gear throughout our journey, proving their durability in challenging conditions.

This was an action-packed month, full of adventure, rare catches, and breathtaking scenery. Stay tuned for the latest episode as The 50 State Pursuit continues capturing these wild pursuits and more!

July Highlights: Bull Trout and Elk Scouting in Idaho and Colorado

July took us north to Idaho as The 50 State Pursuit continued, with our focus on filming for Condition1 Cases and Turtlebox Audio. This leg of the journey featured a continuation of our native trout tour, where we targeted bull trout and Westslope cutthroat trout in Idaho’s pristine waters. The remote landscapes provided stunning backdrops for our shots, as we chased these elusive species through some of the most beautiful trout waters in the state.

After our time in Idaho, we headed south to Colorado, where we were joined by my brother, his wife Stephanie, and my best friend Justin Fowler. We spent nights car camping under the stars, soaking in the rugged beauty of the Colorado wilderness while scouting for the upcoming elk season. This was a perfect blend of relaxation and preparation, as we got ready for the exciting hunts ahead.

August Highlights: Chasing Redfish in the Louisiana Marsh

August brought the heat as we left the cool mountain air behind and headed down south to the Louisiana marsh. We met up with our friend Ty Gibbs to chase big redfish in the sweltering humidity. Despite the intense conditions, the adventure was unforgettable, as we navigated the marshlands and landed some impressive fish.

While in Louisiana, we had the chance to complete filming for the Louisiana episode of The 50 State Pursuit. We also collaborated with Duck Camp to showcase their latest apparel line, capturing shots that highlighted the durability and style of their gear in the rugged marshlands. September Highlights: Elk Hunting in the Backcountry feauturing Jetboil

September was a true test of endurance, as we spent 22 days in the field chasing elk and living out of our packs. The grind of backcountry hunting pushed us physically and mentally, but the experience was unforgettable. We had several opportunities to harvest some incredible bulls, but unfortunately, a few heartbreaking shots were deflected by branches at 20 and 40 yards. While we didn’t fill our tags, the lessons learned from this hunt were invaluable, and we’re eager to get back out there next season.

Throughout this adventure, we also captured amazing content for our partners Jetboil, Turtlebox, and Kifaru, putting their gear to the test in the demanding wilderness conditions. From cooking meals in the backcountry to hauling our equipment over rugged terrain, their products were essential in keeping us going.

We can’t wait to take what we learned and apply it to future hunts. Stay tuned as we continue sharing our journey in the wild!
